3k run along Tamsui River

As we prepared to leave JieShou school to head to the river run, the kids tried to burn off the nervousness by arm wrestling each other.

Now off to the river. We weren’t prepared for the scale of this event. Hundreds of kids, a dozen police, large stage with concert speakers and dance videos playing. Before the race started a group of curious Taiwanese students circled up around our girls and they were giddy talking back and forth. It was so cool to see them jump in like that. The boys mostly kept to themselves haha.

Off to the races!

I didn’t have my camera with me because I wanted to race too, but Ezra, from Harriett Tubman was the fastest in our group and Leo was pretty quick, too. Maya finished 2nd amongst hundreds of girls!

Jump back on the chartered bus to the school where the students were picked up by their homestay families.

Dez’s partner brought him McDonalds 🙂

After all the kids were picked up, the adults walked to a bus stop. We could see Maya shooting hoops on the playground as we reveled in our newfound freedom. What will we do tonight? 派对时间!
