Jiufen Old Street

It’s supposed to be a sunny 84° today, and we’re headed out early to Jiufen Old Street. It used to be a gold mining town and is now a winding street of restaurants and tourist shops.

Waiting for the bus

The hour-long ride to Jiufen was comfortable. They only allow as many passengers as seats on the bus.

Same bridge we crossed yesterday, over Keelung River
We’re here

Stairs lead into a narrow alleyway. Scooters honk as they weave through the crowds to bring supplies to the restaurants.

Mallette and I had lunch on a balcony above a small town square. We had soup dumplings, braised pork on rice, fried green beans and edamame. Might be the first vegetables I’ve had if you don’t count scallions hidden in my pancakes.

Yang Laoshi hosted a group selfie competition. Grand prize was boba tea. Made for some fun photos.

At the outskirts of town there was a great view of the port cities below (Keelung and others).

We all headed back to Taipei in the early afternoon to rest a bit before heading out to a night market tonight.

Cards on the bus home

Some students spent the rest time working on their field study packets.

Tonight’s adventure is Shilin Night Market.
