This morning was the big welcome ceremony at the school. The kids all took the stage to a packed auditorium.

After some quick speeches by the teachers, each kids took the mic to introduce themselves.

Then the kids exchanged gifts from Portland, with their delegation.

After the ceremony we gathered in a room to break into groups, each kid with their homestay partner, to prepare for a scavenger hunt across Old Taipei City.

We began the hunt with a decent amount of energy, but I think all activities of the homestay weekend (many visited the top of Taipei 101 tower, a few saw Godzilla vs Kong in a theater, shopping trips were popular, swimming and eating even after you’re full) that had just preceded them, began to catch up and fatigue set in. Plus the scavenger hunt was legitimately difficult. I barely understood how they came to some of the answers. Reading Chinese poetry, communicating via Morse Code! The other chaperones just shook our head as the Taiwanese students carried the load.

Everyone was relieved to be done. The kids got ice cream and were content. Once again the kids got picked up by their homestay partners and we headed back to the hotel.
