Picking up where we left off, Tuesday afternoon. Following lunch, we watched presentations by the JieShou students about various topics like the sports they like to play, why they wear uniforms (so if they do something bad in the neighborhood after school the school will be notified), popular snacks, what does school lunch taste like (I had it today and it was amazing! Rice with garlic chicken, squash, ginger ground beef, a fresh passion fruit), the school anthem that they all sing (sounded quite militant haha), and aerobics they do before P.E. They asked our students how these things compare in Portland. The kids were shy for the most part but a few spoke about home.

Then they broke into 8 stations featuring things common or unique to Taiwan.

Here they could taste, touch, or learn about each.

Haha, don’t worry. It’s was non alcoholic. They were excited to try it, but I didn’t find anyone who liked it. It didn’t taste like any of the lager I’ve found around here, maybe more floral? Not like some of the decent N/A beer I’ve had in Portland.
With that done, the kids were off to spend the remaining period in an actual classroom with their partner. Some were sent to PE, others to Taiwanese language class, at least one other was sent to music class. We walked by a few on our way out.

Tonight is the last night of homestays. We’re meeting them back there in the morning for the farewell. I think many students are excited to be back in the familiar comforts of the hotel, and to be with friends.
