Final Stop: Crete

One last loukoumades pit stop before we leave Athens.

It’s a quick flight to Crete, from Athens, on a prop-plane.

First glimpse of Crete

Originally we had plans to rent a car and drive to the city of Chania, or see the ancient Minoan palace of Knossos. But after non-stop go, go, go the past 12 days, relaxing on a beach at a resort felt like the best way to cap off our vacation. We have a private pool on our deck, a few larger swimming pools by the sea, a guy who makes crepes all day, and bottomless cocktails. It’s pretty much 82 degrees from 8am-8pm. Do we really have to leave?

For the first 24 hours after Eli’s marathon he was waddling around like a constipated penguin, but 48 hours later he says he’s fine!! His only struggle now is finding the right spoon for each type of food.

Addie is content to sunbathe all day. Eli has been concocting lemon iced tea from scratch (plus one or two cocktails since the drinking age is 18 here).

Dami did a Zumba class this morning, and we both hit the gym to lift some weights. Feels like you accomplished something before drinking the rest of the day 🙂

Family out to sea

One last sunset remains before we fly home, by way of Helsinki and Seattle. We saw some incredible places, laughed more than we argued, definitely got lost a few times, and made some great memories as a family just before Eli heads off to college and the next phase of his life.

For now it’s back to the real world again. I’m sure going to miss it.
