This morning we hit the streets to find some breakfast. There’s a million bakeries in a five block radius and I’m determined to try them all.

After eating we headed to the subway towards the Eiffel Tower, where we have tickets to walk up to the second floor.

This subway car was really comfortable. I had never seen a double-decker subway before.

The morning was much cooler than yesterday, so our march up the stairs of the Tower wasn’t too hard.

We were rewarded with a great view at the top. I could see Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre on a distant hill (about 3 miles from here). The river bends 180•, with the tower in the center of the bend.

Back on the ground (another 674 steps later) we found a few leftover relics from last year’s summer Olympics.

A friend suggested a nearby cafe (O Coffee) for lunch that did not disappoint!

Back to the house for a quick nap. While we rested, Eli went for a jog down the river. Trying to stay loose for his marathon in less than a week. I guess a strict diet of croissants isn’t enough?

After dinner the kids were beat so they stayed in for the night (we all got about 20k steps in today). Dami and I went on another walk along the river.

After sunset the lights began to flicker on the Eiffel Tower as we walked back across the park behind the Louvre, toward our apartment. The Olympic flame cauldron (filled with helium) rose and then hovered above the flames, tethered on all sides by rope.

Bonne nuit!
P.S. Yesterday I was overwhelmed by how much trash lined all the streets we encountered in Paris. Turns out there was a large music festival (Fête de la Musique) here all weekend, and garbage pickup doesn’t come through until Monday morning. Workers were at it all day today cleaning up and by evening the streets were fairly clean. I think we just happened to arrive on a Sunday evening after an event!
