Maokong

The rain has lessened so we’re headed up to Maokong, an area high in the mountains known for its tea plantations.

It was only a 7-minute bus ride to the base of Maokong, where you can take a glass-bottomed gondola ride to the top!

The ride takes a good 20+ minutes during which you can enjoy views of Taipei, or lay on the floor for a photo op 🙂

We had a few hours to explore the area.

The kids broke off to hike a number of different trails that pass through the tea fields.

After hiking an hour or so, Mallette and I settled in a little shop to enjoy a beer with a view. For a brief moment Taipei 101 poked through the clouds.

Everything here has a tea theme. I had a Taiwanese tea ale. It wasn’t bad. 不错

After exploring we rode the gondola back down and returned to the hotel to clean up for dinner. Yang Laoshi found a spot nearby that could fit us all for dinner.

My favorite dish was beef with some type of greens. The tofu wasn’t bad either (not something I usually would say).

干杯! (cheers)

Only two more days left! Time has flown by. I think we’re off to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial tomorrow.
